WELCOME

Dear Colleagues,

We sincerely apologize for the long silence since we announced the postponement of the 3rd International Conference on Sublobar Resections for Lung Cancer that was previously planned in Tokyo, Japan. After a deliberate discussion over Coronavirus that has spread worldwide, we finally decided to hold it in Yamagata, Japan on the 29th and 30th of October, 2021.

The outcomes of sublobar resections for peripheral non-small cell lung cancer ≤2 cm appear to be favorable, and several trials on limited resection for lobectomy-tolerable patients have been conducted. However, the inclusion criteria should be carefully considered to prevent local recurrence.

There are various topics on sublobar resections such as randomized prospective trials, ground-glass opacity nodules, management of surgical margin, spread through air space (STAS), and resection methods, including precise segmentectomy and sub-segmentectomy, and reduced port approach.

The first conference was held in Paris in 2018, the second was in New York in 2019, and the third will be in Yamagata. Asian countries have abundant resources on this topic. Significant progress has already been made, and further advances are expected in radiotherapy and other local treatments. Technologies in robotic surgeries and endoscopic devices have also been making significant advances.

We hope that the meeting enables everyone to learn all about the latest technologies and obtain some useful knowledge.

We sincerely wish for you to take advantage of the upcoming meeting and enjoy visiting this not often seen side of Japan. We believe you will find your visit to Yamagata rich and memorable. It will be the best season to enjoy some clean air, premium sake and local cuisine, and see the gorgeous autumn leaves’ scenery.

Again, we apologize for the inconvenience caused to all attendees by this postponement. Thank you very much for your continuous support and kind understanding. We look forward to seeing you in Yamagata, and we sincerely pray that we all will remain in good health and safety.
